“Watch Me” uses dance to instil confidence and unite girls aged 10 - 16 through the curation of their very own music video. Over 16 weeks, participants will learn new dance styles and experiment with freestyle to build confidence in their dancing abilities through sessions where they will co-design all aspects for a dance music video. They will then work with a filmographer to film and edit the video to promote dance within the community. We will increase the confidence of girls who are underrepresented in the creative industries using dance and music as a way of expressing themselves, forging long-term relationships with the arts. They will develop skills in video editing supporting career development opportunities as an artist and building transferable employability skills. They will also build essential skills in teamwork, leadership and discipline through creating a troop and taking equal responsibility and ownership for the final product. The sessions will be delivered by the amazing professional dancer, Alisha Thompson. She is a London based professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and former dancer of Olivier award winning company Boy Blue Entertainment one of the UK’s leading Hip-hop Dance Companies. Alisha trained at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and then went on to attend at The London Studio Centre where she received a BA Hons in Musical Theatre from one of the UK’s leading conservatoires of dance. Alisha has since danced with some of the best in the world and her credits include: NIKE, PUMA, CHANEL, JINGLE BELL BALL, DIZZEE RASCAL, STEF FLON DON, JONATHON ROSS SHOW, FKA TWIGS, RINA SAWAYAMA, ALL STARS THE MOVIE, THE O2 ARENA, YEARS & YEARS, SHISEIDO, VEVO and has completed TWO USA TOURS to name a few. She has been working with Theatre Peckham for the past 4 years.
